That’s Not My Name-The Ting Tings

Never has such a seemingly annoying ditty have so much going on underneath the hood. I started paying attention at about 1:45. After about 2:45 you just have to give in. I’m sorry. Those are the breaks. Anything else would be last wordism.

  • I approve.

  • I liked it. It did not take me 1:45 to get into it, but I have to admit, I kept wanting it to go into… Oh Mickey you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind!….

I also appreciated the amazingly simple drum work that was… catchy… and would make driving a pleasure, much unlike the drumming of Meg White, which after about 1:45, has me wanting to drive into something.

Totally Jennifer. Especially during the first minute. Once the background layers fit in, the song transcends to something very different. A more modern Pipettes/Go Team! wall of sound. Oh wait, I can’t ever call something a wall of sound since I will be ridiculed for it. Let’s call it an acoustic structure. At any rate, this song totally rocks. I’m pissed at Pitchfork for urinating on the album, which I’ll bet is awesome.

Oh, I also love the monochromatic or white backgrounds in their videos. It is so Gap ad retro!!!

  • I feel like she should be in Doctor Who.

I really like it when it goes into sublime layering.

  • that was really great. I did keep edging over into Blur territory after “that’s not my na-ame” WOOHOO!!

    but maybe that’s just me.

I still can’t get enough of this song. I was hoping they would perform it on Conan, but they did Shut UP and let me go. Fine.

I should point out that the video this song originally linked to, which I thought was mega groovy, has been replaced with an Americanized version. Yawn. I did discover, though, that the full-length can be heard. It has the last amazing minute go on for like three minutes. Much better:

  • This has been running through my head again this week… this always happens… a song I’ve heard a number of times before, gets burped up to the frontal portion of my mind and I know, I’ve not only heard it, but surely must have read about it on SotD.
